Jacob becomes Israel

Jacob begins as a grasping younger brother who exploits Esau’s hunger and receives Isaac’s blessing through deception. Forced to flee, he encounters God at Bethel and discovers that the covenant promise travels with him. Years under Laban expose Jacob to the same manipulation he once practiced. On the journey home, he prepares to meet Esau and spends a night wrestling with a mysterious man. Wounded but blessed, Jacob receives the name Israel. His story does not erase failure, but it shows God transforming a fearful deceiver into the father of a covenant people.
