Creation and human calling

Genesis begins with God, not with chaos, chance, or a struggle among rival gods. God speaks light, land, living creatures, and humanity into an ordered creation that he calls good. The man and woman receive life as a gift, share the calling to bear God’s image, and are placed in a garden where work, worship, relationship, and responsibility belong together. The opening chapters establish the Bible’s foundation: creation belongs to God, human life carries sacred worth, and the world was made for communion between God, people, and the rest of creation.

Genesis 1:26–31

Genesis 1:26–31 gives humanity a distinct role as God’s image. Dominion is delegated responsibility under God, not permission to exploit. Male and female share this dignity and calling, so every human life carries worth that does not depend on power, usefulness, age, ability, or status.
