1 Samuel, The Shepherd Is Chosen
1 Samuel
This is the story of prayer, kings, and the cost of disobedience.
In 1 Samuel, God raises the humble, rejects the proud, and begins the rise of David.
In barren prayer she bowed her head
And poured her sorrow out
A child was given, set apart
To hear the holy sound
Then in the night the Lord called out
Where silence filled the room
And Samuel stood to bear the word
While judgment slowly moved
In the night, in the night
Came the voice that men ignore
Not by strength, not by height
Does the Lord his kingdom order
Crowns may rise, crowns may fall
Still His word outlives them all
The ark was lost, the glory fled
And Israel shook with fear
They begged for one to wear a crown
To lead them with a spear
So Saul stood tall before them all
Anointed for the throne
But pride and fear undid the man
Who would not yield control
Give us a king, give us a sword
Give us a name, the nations fear
But the Lord sees deeper than the eyes
And the Lord was listening near
Crowns may rise, crowns may fall
Still his word outlives them all
Then David stood in quiet fields
And oil ran down his head
A shepherd chosen far from courts
While Saul was filled with dread
A giant fell, the songs went up
And envy lit the flame
Through cordon caves I'll chase the one who would not seize his name
I will not strike the anointed king
I will not take by force
Let the Lord decide the crown
Let him set the course
Though I am hunted through the wild
Lo, the throne is near, I will wait for what he gives
I will walk in fear
Edendor in the dark of night
Saul searched for what he lost
Then Gilboa took the crown away
And showed the kingdom's cost
Jonathan fell, and Saul fell too
Beneath the morning sky
But God had moved through all of it
And would not be denied
In the night, in the night
Came the voice that men ignore
Not by strength, not by height
Does the Lord, His kingdom order
Crowns may rise
Crowns may fall
Spears may break and armies scatter
God exalts the lowly still
And His choosing is the matter
From Hannah's prayer to David's rise
The Lord was riding flame through stone
He tears down pride, he lifts the meek
And the kingdom is his alone
Thank you.
