Hezekiah and Sennacherib
2 Kings
The king of Assyria, king with fire and iron
His armies like a flood across the ancient land
He stood before our walls and spoke his declaration
No God has ever stopped us, yours will not withstand
His words fell on the city like a stone on water
The people on the wall stood still and did not speak
But Hezekiah heard the letter of the rapture cave
And carried what he could not hold to the only one who sees
He spread it in the house of the Lord before his face
He pressed his hands upon it and he cried out from that place
Lord, thou alone art God of all the kingdoms of the earth
Now bow thine ear and hear the words that they have said
An hundred fourscore and five thousand
By morning they were gone
One prayer went up in the darkness
One angel came before the dawn
The Empire sent its finest
The Lord of Hosts sent one
And hundred, fourscore, and five thousand
And Jerusalem still stands
Thus saith the Lord, he shall not enter in this city
Not one arrow shall he shoot within her gate
He shall not come before her with a shield or a seed work
For I will defend this city for my name
So when the camp fell silent in the watches of the knights
No trumpet and no battle cry, no warning and no sound
And hundred fourscore and five thousand men of Assyria
By the angel of the Lord laid down
He spread it in the house of the Lord before his face
He pressed his hands upon it and he cried out from that place
Lord, thou alone art God of all the kingdoms of the earth
Now bow thine ear and hear the words that they have said
And hundred fourscore and five thousand
By morning they were gone
One prayer went up in the darkness
One angel came before the dawn
The empire sent its finest
The Lord of hosts sent one
An hundred, fourscore, and five thousand
And Jerusalem still stands
What hath he purposed and who shall turn it back?
What his hand hath stretched out, and who shall turn it back?
He hath spoken, and it shall come to pass
He hath purposed, and it shall stand
Sennacherib arose, and he departed
He returned to Nineveh, and came no more again
For the word of the Lord stood over every kingdom
As it stood that night, and as it standeth still
And hundred four score
And hundred four score
And hundred four score
And five thousand
Goal
Oh
And hundred fourscore and five thousand
By morning they were gone
One prayer went up in the darkness
One angel came before the dark
The empire sent its finest
The Lord of hosts at one
And hundred fourscore and five thousand
And Jerusalem still stands
Jerusalem still stands
Still stands
Still stands
Jerusalem still stands
