Blessed the poor with no kingdom to claim,

Blessed the mourners who carry their pain.

Blessed the meek who refuse to seize ground,

Those hungry for right will be filled when it's found.

Mercy meets mercy, the pure shall see,

Peacemakers bear a new family name.

Hated for righteousness, driven and tried,

The kingdom is nearer than power and pride.

Salt in the earth, light on the hill,

Not words alone, but the doing of his will.

The road may be narrow, the gate may be small,

But rock underfoot is worth more than it costs.

He carried the law from the hand to the heart:

Anger and murder are not worlds apart.

Lust hidden inward, the promise betrayed,

Truth without oaths and no theater made.

No blow for a blow, no hate for a foe,

Go farther in mercy than vengeance would go.

Give where no audience watches the deed,

Pray where the Father alone is the need.

Daily bread, pardon, deliverance sought,

No public fasting to purchase a thought.

Store where no moth and no rust can consume,

A heart follows treasure wherever it moves.

No servant can answer two masters at once,

The heart cannot serve both the Master and wealth.

Look at the birds and the lilies that grow:

Tomorrow has trouble enough of its own.

Take out the beam before judging the speck.

Ask and keep asking; seek and expect.

Do unto others the good you would choose.

Watch for the prophet by watching the fruit.

Not every voice crying "Lord" will remain;

Works without obedience still end in vain.

Enter the narrow way, walk it and stand.

Hear these words deeply and do what they ask.

Rain on the roof and the flood at the wall,

Rock holds the house when the sand lets it fall.

The multitude heard him and knew what was new:

He spoke with authority, and called them to do.
