Ezekiel saw the heavens open in the land of exile.
And the glory of the Lord came like fire
in the storm
By
the river of the captives Where the broken banners fell He
saw lightning in the whirlwind And a throne no tongue could
tell Living creatures full of burning Wheels within the wheels below
Eyes were watching every turning Where the spirit chose to go
And the voice above the thunder Called a prophet from the
dust Son of man, stand up before me Speak my word
because you must
Can these bones live? Can the dead rise? Can the breath
of God fill the valley one more time? Can the stone
heart break? Can the grave let go? When the Lord says
live Then the dry bones know
He was sent to be a watchman
Set upon a ruined wall With a warning for the wicked
And a mercy in the call Jerusalem had blood upon her
Princes, priests and prophets blind Still the glory would not vanish
Still the Lord had not resigned Though the city burned behind
them Though the temple gates were stained God was moving through
the exile Not defeated, not contained Can these bones live?
Can the dead rise? Can the breath of God fill the
valley one more time?
Can the stone heart break?
Can the grave let go?
When the Lord says, live Then the dry bones
know I will
wash you clean with water I will take the stone
away I will put my spirit in you
I will teach your feet my way
From the east the glory rises Through the threshold like the
sun And the river leaves the altar Till the desert starts
to run Can these bones live?
Hear the bones cry? There is breath again in the valley
of the dry Can the stone heart break? Can the dead
seed grow?
When the Lord says leave Then the dry bones
know
From
the ashes of the city
from the silence of the slain
came the sound of holy breathing
and the Lord returned
again
