Guided first edition · Matthew 21
Read the passage in context
Read the complete assigned passage before isolating a phrase or answering a question. Identify the speakers, setting, repeated words, problem, response, and the change that occurs by the end of the unit.
Passage focus: Jesus entering Jerusalem on the donkey, cleansing the temple, and confronting leaders through parables.
What to notice
- Watch what Jesus says and does, and how people respond.
- Trace kingdom, discipleship, opposition, cross, and resurrection in the evangelist’s own sequence.
- Let later doctrine clarify the scene without erasing its immediate setting.
Gospel
Why this matters
This unit reveals Jesus through his words, actions, suffering, resurrection, and the responses around him. It belongs to the Gospel’s unfolding witness, not to an isolated collection of sayings.
Text, conclusion, and interpretation
Treat a direct statement in the passage as explicit. Label a conclusion that combines several verses as Scripture-supported. Where careful readers disagree, name the view as interpretation rather than presenting it as the only possible reading.
Discuss and reflect
1. What does the passage state directly?
2. What changes between the beginning and end of the unit?
3. Which conclusion can you support with an exact verse?
4. What responsible response follows from the passage in context?
