This page explains how posts submitted to community features are checked before they appear, which outside services are involved, and what is sent to them. It expands on the community section of the Privacy Policy.
Checks that happen on this site
A submitted post is first checked against local rules covering length, repeated characters, excessive capital letters, external links, and patterns that look like personal contact information or a scam. A post stopped by these rules is rejected or held without being sent anywhere else.
Cloudflare Turnstile
Turnstile evaluates account and posting requests to confirm they are not automated. It receives the challenge response and may receive the IP address the request came from.
OpenAI
A post that passes the local rules is sent to OpenAI for automated safety screening, using its moderation service. What is sent is the text of the post, its title and body, and nothing else. A requested public display name is screened the same way. No email address, account identifier, IP address, or device information is sent to OpenAI.
What comes back, and what is kept
OpenAI returns whether the text was flagged and under which safety categories. Those category names are stored with a timestamp so a decision can be reviewed. Safety classifier detail may be removed after 90 days when it is no longer needed.
Where this screening is used
This screening is used only for text submitted to community features. It is not used anywhere else on the site.
If screening cannot be completed
If the check cannot be completed, a post is held for review rather than published.
