Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Jehoshaphat fell down upon his face The armies of three nations filled the place O Lord our God, we have no strength to stand But our eyes are on you, our lives are in your hand The Spirit of the Lord rose up and said Do not be dismayed, do not be afraid March out tomorrow, take your stand and see The battle is not yours, the victory is free Send the singers to the front of the line Let the choir lead where the soldiers march behind Lift your voice, Judah The battle is the Lord's Heaven fights for those who praise before the sword They rose at dawn and went to the wilderness Jehoshaphat cried out in righteousness Believe his prophets and you will prevail Put your trust in God and let his name be hailed The Spirit of the Lord rose up and said Do not be dismayed Do not be afraid March out tomorrow Take your stand and see The battle is not yours The victory is free Send the singers to the front of the line Let the choir lead where the soldiers march behind Lift your voice, Judah The battle is the Lord's Heaven fights for those who praise before the sword And when the choir sang, the enemy turned on the enemy And when the choir sang, they ambushed one another in the field And when the choir sang, three armies fell by their own hand And Judah came to claim what God had planned They sang The enemy turned blade on blade They sang And all their enemies were slain They sang And Judah came to find the field Nothing left but plunder God had sealed Send the singers to the front of the line Let the choir lead where the soldiers march behind Lift your voice, Judah The battle is the Lord's Heaven fights for those who praised before the sun Praise went out, the enemy fell Praise went out, and Israel could tell The Lord of Hosts had fought and won Before the battle had begun The battle is the Lord's The battle is the lot

About the passage

2 Chronicles 20: The army sings, and the coalition falls apart

A large coalition approaches Judah, and Jehoshaphat does not hide either the danger or his fear. He calls the nation to seek the LORD, and his public prayer ends with the plain admission, "neither know we what to do: but our eyes are upon thee." The answer through Jahaziel is equally concrete: Judah must go out, take its position, and watch a battle it will not have to fight. Singers lead the departure, and when praise begins the enemy coalition turns on itself. Judah spends three days gathering spoil from a victory for which no Judean combat is described, then returns to the temple with music. Yet the chapter refuses a smooth heroic ending. Jehoshaphat is still unable to remove every high place, and a later commercial alliance with Ahaziah is condemned. Ships built for the partnership break before sailing. Great deliverance does not make the king incapable of another bad attachment, and one strong chapter does not erase the unresolved pattern.
