[Earthly House] If this tent is dissolved where the present winds blow, A building from God waits beyond what we know. We groan to be clothed, not unclothed in despair, The Spirit is earnest that promise is there. [Verse I] Always confident, walking by faith, Absent from sight yet held by His grace. We labor to please Him whether present or gone, For all will appear where the Judge sits upon. [Chorus] Be ye reconciled to God, The love of Christ constrains the road. One died for all, that the living might live Not unto themselves, but for Him who was raised. Be ye reconciled to God, The old has passed and the new has begun. [Verse II] Henceforth no person is measured by flesh, In Christ a new creature emerges afresh. All things are of God, who reconciled first, Then gave us the ministry carrying the word. [Ambassador Bridge] God was in Christ reconciling the world, Not charging transgressions where mercy was heard. As ambassadors now, through pleading made plain, Receive not the gift of reconciliation in vain. [Final Chorus] Be ye reconciled to God, He made the sinless One sin for us, That we might be made God's righteousness in Him, A people restored by the work of the Son. [Outro] The message was entrusted, And the ambassadors went out.

About the passage

2 Corinthians 5: Clothed with life and entrusted with reconciliation

Paul's hope for life beyond mortality is not a wish to remain bodiless. He longs to be "clothed upon" so that mortality may be swallowed by life, and the Spirit serves as God's pledge of that future. Yet confidence about being with the Lord immediately leads into accountability: what is done in the body matters before "the judgment seat of Christ." Judgment and love then converge in Paul's explanation of ministry. "The love of Christ constraineth us" because the one who died for all has changed the direction of the lives that remain. That same death and resurrection change how people are known, so that anyone "in Christ" belongs to new creation rather than merely to old measures of recognition. The source of the change is God, who reconciles through Christ and entrusts "the word of reconciliation" to ambassadors. Their authority is representative, and their message rests on Christ's sinlessness and the righteousness given in him.
