Outside were conflicts, inside were fears;
Macedonia gave our bodies no rest.
But God, who comforts the ones cast down,
sent Titus carrying news from the west.
Not sorrow for sorrow, not pain for display—
godly grief turns the heart toward another way.
Repentance to salvation leaves no regret;
mercy meets truth where the tears have been spent.
The letter was sharp, and I grieved for an hour,
not that you hurt, but that truth found its power.
Carefulness, longing, zeal to make right—
changed hearts stepped out where excuses had died.
Worldly sorrow circles the wound until death.
Godly sorrow opens the door and confesses.
One guards despair; one rises and turns.
One hides from the light; one enters and learns.
Not sorrow for sorrow, but grief bearing fruit.
Titus was strengthened by seeing the truth.
Affection returned where the fracture had been;
I rejoice, and confidence rises again.
