[Intro] Do not be shaken by rumor or sign, Do not let a counterfeit letter define. The gathering to Christ has not lost its true day, Let no voice of panic deceive you away. [Bridge - Refrain] The man of sin revealed will rise, With lying wonders before human eyes. But breath from the Lord and the brightness of dawn Will strip every throne from the lawless one. [Verse 2] The mystery works where rebellion is fed, Exalting the creature where God should be said. They perish who would not receive truth in love, Choosing the darkness and signs from below. [Bridge - Turn] But beloved of God, you were called to stand, Sanctified Spirit and truth hand in hand. Hold what was taught, let no terror command, The gospel has summoned you into his glory. [Outro - Final Refrain] The man of sin revealed will fall, No borrowed wonder can rival the Lord. May Christ give comfort, may hearts be made sure, Established in word and in every work pure.

About the passage

2 Thessalonians 2: A false alarm and a rebellion under restraint

Chapter 2 begins with a congregation shaken by a claim about the day of Christ and ends by directing them back to what they had already been taught. Paul keeps Christ's coming and the believers' gathering to him in view, but he rejects the destabilizing message and the authority falsely attached to it. He then recalls rebellion, the man of sin, an unnamed restraint, the already working mystery of iniquity, deceptive signs, and judicial delusion. Some details remain obscure because the written letter assumes oral teaching the Thessalonians remembered. Yet the outcome is clear before the antagonist's activity is fully described: the Lord destroys him at his coming. The chapter then reverses its vocabulary. Against perishing, unrighteousness, and belief of a lie stand salvation, sanctification, and belief of the truth. The final emphasis is not fascination with the lawless figure, but steadfastness in received teaching, comfort, good words, and good work.
