Lyrics · Daniel
We Will Not Serve Thy Gods
Daniel 3:1-30
[Processional Chant]
Our God is able, but even if not,
We will not serve what thy empire has made.
When the horns began, a whole plain bent low,
[Verse 1]
One golden body and ten thousand shadows.
Three men stood upright where obedience was priced,
The king asked what God could deliver from his hand.
Heat it sevenfold; bind every sleeve,
[Chorus]
Our God is able, but even if not,
We will not serve what thy empire has made.
Faith does not bargain for the ending it needs.
The fire took ropes but not hair or cloth,
[Silence]
A fourth walked near where the three had been cast.
[Verse 2]
The king counted again and opened the door,
They came from the flame without carrying its smell.
The music commanded, the faithful refused,
[Final Chorus]
Our God is able, but even if not,
We will not serve what thy empire has made.
Fire could surround them but could not name their God.
