Daniel
[Vision Verse] Four winds troubled the great dark sea; Four beasts rose where the kingdoms would be. Lion with wings, bear raised on one side, Leopard with four heads in terrible stride. Then came a fourth thing dreadful and strong, Iron teeth breaking and trampling long. Ten horns lifted; one spoke proud breath, Making war with the saints unto death. [Refrain] The Ancient of Days took His seat. Fire flowed out at His feet. Books were opened; the boasting was done. Night could not conquer the Holy One. [Chorus] One like the Son of Man Came with the clouds of heaven, Brought near before the Ancient, And everlasting rule was given. Every people, tongue, and nation Shall serve beneath His hand. The beasts lose all dominion To one like the Son of Man. [Verse 2] Daniel was grieved by the visions he bore; An angel explained what the kingdoms were for. The saints would be worn for a season of time, Yet judgment would sit and remove evil's claim. The kingdom beneath all the heavens at last Would rest with the holy when tyrants had passed. [Final Chorus] One like the Son of Man, His kingdom cannot fade. No empire can destroy it, No proud horn make it afraid.

About the passage

Daniel 7: The beasts meet a court they cannot intimidate

Daniel's visions begin by recasting imperial succession as a sequence of beasts rising from a stormy sea. The view from below is not polished metal but appetite, teeth, trampling, and speech that grows arrogant enough to challenge heaven. Then the scene moves to an ordered court. The Ancient of days sits, the books are opened, and the loud horn keeps talking while judgment proceeds without needing its permission. One "like the Son of man" receives an everlasting dominion, and the interpretation links that kingdom with the saints of the Most High. Yet the promise is not given by denying the reality of persecution. The horn makes war, prevails for a time, and wears the holy people down before its authority is removed. Daniel asks questions, receives answers, and still ends disturbed enough for his appearance to change. The chapter allows final judgment to be certain while the human recipient remains deeply unsettled by what comes before it.
