A Good Name Is Better
Ecclesiastes · Bible Songs, Classical & Orchestral
A good name is better than expensive perfume;
The day of death can teach what birth cannot.
It is better to enter a house of mourning
Than to lose the ending of all flesh.
Sorrow may bring wisdom to the countenance;
Laughter can hide an empty heart.
Hear the rebuke of someone wise
Rather than the song of many fools.
The end of a matter can be better than beginning;
Patient spirit rises higher than pride.
Do not hurry anger into your bosom;
Do not worship yesterday as though it held no pain.
Wisdom is shelter, as money can be shelter,
But wisdom gives life to those who own it.
Consider what the hand of God has fashioned;
Who can make straight what He has bent?
Receive prosperity with thankful gladness;
In adversity, remember both are known to God.
Do not turn righteousness into proud display,
And do not choose wickedness to prove your freedom.
Hold reverence and wisdom in both hands;
The one who fears God will escape destructive extremes.
I searched for wisdom and found it distant;
One scheme led onward to another scheme.
God made humanity upright at the beginning,
But people sought inventions of their own.
