[Liberty] Stand fast in the freedom where Christ has made free, Do not wear again the old yoke of slavery. Neither mark nor its absence can make the heart whole, But faith working through love fulfills what is owed. [Verse I] You ran well before; who hindered the race? A little leaven spreads through the whole place. Liberty is never an opening for flesh, By love serve each other and neighbor be blessed. [Works of Flesh] The works are made manifest, bitter and plain: Uncleanness and hatred, division and rage, Envy and murder, drunkenness, strife, A harvest that cannot inherit God's life. [Chorus] The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, Longsuffering, gentleness, goodness released, Faith, meekness, temperance growing as one, Against such fruit no law has been drawn. The fruit of the Spirit is not empty speech, It ripens in those who keep step as He leads. [Bridge] They that are Christ's have crucified flesh, Its passions and cravings no longer enthroned. If we live in the Spirit, then walk in the Spirit, No vain glory provoking the weak or our own. [Final Chorus] The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, A living harvest where bondage must cease. Stand fast in liberty, serve through love, And walk in the Spirit with eyes fixed above. [Outro] Freedom had a harvest, And its fruit looked like Christ.

About the passage

Galatians 5: Freedom takes the form of love, not self-indulgence

Freedom in the Book of Galatians is neither a new badge nor permission for self-indulgence. Paul warns that accepting circumcision as the ground of justification brings obligation to the whole law and places the seeker outside the grace on which the letter has insisted. Yet uncircumcision cannot become a rival ground of boasting either. What matters is faith working through love. Paul then exposes the apparently small interference troubling the churches and answers it with severe language because, in his view, the proposed addition changes the gospel’s character. The positive shape of liberty appears in a deliberate paradox: free people serve one another through love. The conflict between flesh and Spirit is therefore measured in relationships as much as appetites. Hatred, rivalry, factions, and envy stand beside sexual wrongdoing and drunkenness. The Spirit’s fruit answers with a different character and ends exactly where the community needs it, with a warning against vain glory, provocation, and envy.
