[Opening Chorus]
And there was light where the darkness lay,
A word broke night and awakened day.
The deep drew back, and the heavens spread wide;
The world found rhythm at the Maker's side.
And God saw all that had come to be,
The earth, the sky, the living sea,
And there was light.
[Verse 1]
Morning and evening answered the call,
Waters were gathered, dry land stood tall.
Seed-bearing branches lifted their green,
Fruit in the garden, bright and clean.
Sun for the day and moon for the night,
Stars set burning in ordered flight.
[Verse 2]
Wings crossed heaven, fins filled the foam,
Beasts found pasture, each found a home.
Dust bore an image, breath gave it worth;
Man and woman were placed on the earth.
Blessed to labor, blessed to increase,
Given a garden, abundance, and peace.
[Bridge]
No hammer sounded, no army won;
The word was spoken, and it was done.
Six days of wonder, then striving ceased;
The seventh was hallowed, creation at peace.
[Final Chorus]
And there was light where the darkness lay,
A word broke night and awakened day.
The deep drew back, and the heavens spread wide;
The world found rhythm at the Maker's side.
And God saw all, from the great to the small:
It was very good, it was good through all.
And there was light.
