Lyrics · Isaiah
How Art Thou Fallen
Isaiah 13:1-14:27
[Oracle]
Raise the banner; the proud city hears,
Its towers were built from the mortar of fears.
[Refrain]
How art thou fallen, voice that boasted above?
The grave has no throne and the worm has no love.
[Oracle]
Stars hide their faces, the marketplace stills,
The day finds the crown on the height of the hills.
You said, I will rise where the Highest alone reigns,
[Refrain]
How art thou fallen, voice that boasted above?
The grave has no throne and the worm has no love.
[People]
But pride cannot ladder beyond its own chains.
Dead kings awaken and answer the name,
Is this the hand that made nations afraid?
The earth draws a breath when the tyrant is gone,
[Bridge]
Trees lift their branches and break into song.
The purpose of God is not broken by might,
[Coda]
The proud enter darkness; the remnant sees light.
How art thou fallen, voice that boasted above?
The grave has no throne and the worm has no love.
