Lyrics · Jeremiah
We Will Drink No Wine
Jeremiah 35:1-19
[Call]
Cups stood ready in a chamber of stone,
We will drink no wine, their answer was clear,
If a human word can travel through years,
[Response]
The invitation was public, the family not alone.
A dead father’s command still lived in their ears.
Why does the word of the LORD disappear?
[Verse 1]
They owned no vineyard, they planted no field,
Yet held to the charge when the city walls reeled.
Prophets rose early and called Judah home,
[Call]
But the covenant voice met a heart made of stone.
The test was not wine; it was whether one hears,
[Response]
Whether obedience survives convenience and fear.
One family’s refusal became judgment’s sign,
[Final Chorus]
If a human word can travel through years,
Why does the word of the LORD disappear?
They kept a remembered word; Judah abandoned the divine.
