[Verse 1] Zophar says the wicked person's triumph and hypocrite's joy are brief. Their children restore stolen goods while youthful strength descends into dust. Oppression, restless appetite, divine wrath, and inescapable weapons complete Zophar's sentence. Their houses, herds, and children prosper, and some die suddenly after days of pleasure. [Pre-Chorus] The speeches rose, each certain of its claim, But certainty alone could not explain. [Chorus] O That I Knew Where I Might Find Him, let the question open wide, Human answers fail when pride becomes the guide. Wisdom cannot be purchased, mined, or seized, It comes from God, before whom striving ceased. [Verse 2] Travelers know that the wicked may be spared in calamity and honoured at the grave. Eliphaz claims Job's wickedness must be great because human goodness cannot profit God. He falsely charges Job with abusive pledges, withheld water and bread. He invokes the ancient wicked swept away and urges Job to return, receive the law. [Bridge] He searches forward, backward, left, and right without seeing God, yet trusts that the tested path will emerge as gold. God's unchangeable purpose and Job's appointed portion leave him troubled and afraid. Job lists stolen boundaries, seized flocks, exposed poor people, withheld food. Murderers, adulterers, and thieves love darkness, but Job still affirms that their exaltation ends in brokenness.
