Job 32:1-33:33

God Speaketh Once, Yea Twice

Lyrics · Job

God Speaketh Once, Yea Twice

Job 32:1-33:33

[Verse 1] The three older friends stop answering because Job remains righteous in his own eyes. He is also angry that the friends found no answer while still condemning Job. When he sees that no answer remains, his wrath is kindled. Elihu says the spirit in man and the Almighty's inspiration give understanding. [Pre-Chorus] The word was rare until the silence broke, Then truth stood upright in the words God spoke. [Chorus] God Speaketh Once, Yea Twice, the word came like a flame, Kings could resist but could not silence the name. The prophet stood where fear had drawn the line, And heaven answered in appointed time. [Verse 2] Because Job did not direct his words to Elihu, Elihu will not repeat their speeches. He observes the friends standing amazed and speechless. Words press within Elihu like fermenting wine in sealed bottles. Elihu asks Job to hear words formed from an upright heart. [Bridge] Elihu repeats Job's claim of cleanness and complaint that God treats him as an enemy. He answers that God is greater than man and need not account for every act. God may speak through dreams and visions to withdraw pride and preserve life from the pit. Pain, a mediating interpreter, ransom, renewed flesh, prayer, restored righteousness. [Final Chorus] God Speaketh Once, Yea Twice, the word came like a flame, Kings could resist but could not silence the name. The prophet stood where fear had drawn the line, And heaven answered in the final time. [Outro] The word went out and did not fall in vain. The prophet left the truth upon the plain.
