[Verse 1] Job feared God and turned from evil, Children, flocks, and servants blessed. Then in one day messengers entered, Each one carrying less and less: Oxen taken, fire descending, Camels seized and servants slain, Then the wind struck all his children; Ashes could not hold such pain. [Refrain - Job] Though He slay me, yet will I trust Him. Naked I came, and naked return. The Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken; Blessed His name while the ashes burn. [Verse 2] Sores from foot to crown afflicted; Friends sat silent seven days. Then their answers grew like burdens, Certain judgment dressed as praise. Job demanded honest hearing, Longed to place his cause before The One whose wisdom shaped creation, Yet seemed hidden evermore. [Storm Bridge] Then from the whirlwind questions thundered: Where wast thou when earth was laid? Who shut seas behind their borders? Who taught dawn the path it made? Canst thou bind the sweet Pleiades? Canst thou call the lightning's line? Canst thou govern Behemoth, Or draw Leviathan with twine? [Final Refrain] Job laid hand upon his speaking, Saw his limits, dust, and place. He prayed for friends; the Lord restored him, Double blessing after grace. Though He slay me, yet will I trust Him; Faith may tremble, grief may burn. The Lord remains beyond man's counsel, And every creature waits its turn.
