Lyrics · Joel
I Will Restore the Years
Joel 2:18-27
[Lament I]
The land heard pity after seasons of dust,
The empty press waited, the broken barn stood.
Then rain found the furrow and green crossed the hill,
The fig held its fruit and the vats began to fill.
[Refrain]
I will restore the years the devourer has eaten,
Not by denying the wound, but by making the field live.
[Lament II]
Wheat on the floor, oil bright in the vessel,
Bread in the house and praise in the mouth.
Fear not, O pasture; rejoice, O land,
The LORD has done great things with an open hand.
[Hope Turn]
Eat and be satisfied, remember his name,
Know who stood with you through hunger and shame.
Restoration is presence before it is grain:
The LORD in the midst, and his people not ashamed.
[Final Chorus]
I will restore the years the devourer has eaten,
Not by denying the wound, but by making the field live.
Restoration is presence before it is grain:
The LORD in the midst, and his people not ashamed.
