Salt of the Covenant

Leviticus 1:1-3:17

[Verse 1] From the tent the LORD called Moses and the way of offering began, An unblemished life was brought and laid beneath the worshipper's hand. Blood went round the altar, fire received the ordered whole, And smoke rose from the doorway where surrender marked the soul. [Pre-Chorus] Herd or flock, or humble bird, Each was brought according to the word. [Chorus] Salt of the covenant on every gift, Nothing careless, nothing mixed. Grain and oil, the first and best, Peace before the LORD and every portion set. [Verse 2] Fine flour came with frankincense, with oil upon the grain, Oven, pan, and firstfruit each was offered in its way. No leaven rose upon the fire, no honey touched the flame, But covenant salt remained in every offering brought in faith. [Bridge] Bull or sheep or goat of peace was brought before the door, Fat and inward portions rose while blood was never food. Rich and poor approached the same holy altar by command, And worship learned that reverence has a pattern and a place. [Final Chorus] Salt of the covenant on every gift, Nothing careless, nothing mixed. Life and labor, feast and rest, Peace before the LORD and every portion set. [Outro] The fire received the offering, And order guarded worship.
