Lyrics · Nahum
Behold upon the Mountains
Nahum 1:9-15
[Verse 1]
What do the plotters imagine against him?
The LORD makes an utter end.
Affliction will not rise twice from the ashes,
No second chain will bend.
[Verse 2]
Entangled like thorns, made drunk on their plenty,
They burn like dry stubble in flame.
One counselor came from the house of oppression,
Planning evil against the LORD's name.
[Pre-Chorus]
Though many, though quiet, though ranked in a line,
They pass when the hour has reached its design.
[Chorus]
Behold upon the mountains,
The feet of one who brings good news.
Judah, keep the feast again;
The violent one no more shall pass through.
Behold upon the mountains,
A message carried ridge to ridge:
The yoke is broken from the shoulder,
The binding bands are split.
[Middle Eight]
The carved and molten image lose their house,
The name of cruelty is cut away.
A grave is made for power that made itself vile,
And fear no longer rules the day.
[Verse 3]
The LORD has afflicted, yet says, “No more,”
The burden is lifted, the chain leaves the floor.
The road opens clean where the spoilers once stood,
And worship returns with the tidings of good.
[Final Chorus]
Behold upon the mountains,
The feet of one who brings good news.
Judah, keep the feast again;
Perform the vows that terror made refuse.
Behold upon the mountains,
Let every valley hear it said:
The yoke is broken from the shoulder,
The cruel dominion is dead.
[Outro]
A runner crossed the ridgeline,
And fear released the gate.
