The Vow Must Stand
Numbers 28:1-32:42
[Verse 1]
Morning lamb and evening lamb kept time before the LORD,
Sabbath, moon, and festival each carried ordered offerings.
Passover and Weeks returned, the trumpet and atoning day,
Booths unfolded sacrifice until the final holy rest.
[Pre-Chorus]
Public worship held its calendar,
Private words still carried weight.
[Chorus]
The vow must stand when spoken,
Do not make the binding word in vain.
What the mouth has placed before the LORD,
Must be honored, weighed, or lawfully restrained.
[Verse 2]
Father heard a daughter's vow, husband heard a household word,
Silence gave consent, but timely speech could disallow.
Widow and divorced woman bore the promise as her own,
For speech before the Holy One was never empty sound.
[Bridge]
Then vengeance moved on Midian, twelve thousand went to war,
Spoil was cleansed and measured between fighters and the camp.
Not one warrior was missing, gold became memorial,
And eastern tribes received their land after pledging to cross armed.
[Final Chorus]
The vow must stand when spoken,
Do not make the binding word in vain.
From the altar to the battlefield,
Every promise answered to the LORD who heard the name.
[Outro]
Words were never weightless,
And inheritance required faithfulness.
