Receive Him as Myself

Philemon · Lute Song

[Intro] Paul, a prisoner, writes with an open hand; grace to the church in Philemon's house. [Verse 1] Your love has refreshed the hearts of the saints. I could command, yet love makes its appeal. Onesimus, once unprofitable, has become a brother, useful and dear. [Chorus] Receive him as myself; make room beside you, not beneath you. If he has wronged you, if he owes you, put that debt on my account. [Verse 2] I send my own heart back to your door. I would have kept him near these bonds, but goodness must rise from willing consent, not pressure dressed as obedience. [Bridge] Perhaps he left for a season that you might receive him forever: above a servant, a beloved brother, in the flesh and in the Lord. [Outro] Refresh my heart; prepare the lodging. Grace close the letter. Receive him as me.
