About the passage
Psalms 10: The violence hidden under confidence
Psalm 10 stays close to the logic of oppression. It opens by asking why the LORD seems far away, then shows how the wicked convert apparent divine distance into confidence that no accounting will come. Their theology is practical: “God hath forgotten” becomes permission for boasting, deceit, ambush, and the hunting of the poor. The prayer directly contests that conclusion with “Thou hast seen it.” Divine sight is joined to action for the fatherless and to a request that oppressive power be broken. The Book of Psalms does not pretend the opening complaint was imaginary. It carries that complaint through a detailed exposure of arrogance and ends by naming the LORD as king, the humble as heard, and judgment as the end of terror for those without protectors.
