Lord, who gets to stay inside Your tent? Who gets to live on Your holy hill? The one whose walking is straight, Whose dealing is fair, Who tells the truth Where only he can hear it. Who carries no rumour on his tongue, Who does his neighbour no damage, Who will not pick up an insult Against the man beside him. Who thinks nothing of the worthless And gives weight to those who fear the Lord. Who keeps a promise that costs him And still will not take it back. Who will not put out money to bleed a brother, Nor be paid to stand against the innocent. Lord, who gets to stay inside Your tent? Whoever lives this way Will not be shaken loose. Will not be shaken loose.

About the passage

Psalms 15: The guest whose word can be trusted

Psalm 15 asks who may dwell in the LORD’s holy presence and answers by moving almost immediately into ordinary relationships. Walking uprightly, doing righteousness, speaking truth, refusing slander, and protecting a neighbor’s reputation all become sanctuary language. The second half reaches promises and money, where integrity becomes costly enough to test whether it is real. A person keeps an oath even when it hurts, refuses profit that exploits need, and will not accept a reward against the innocent. The Book of Psalms therefore connects holiness with the reliability another person can encounter in daily dealings. The closing promise of stability gathers the whole portrait. What will not be moved is a life whose heart, tongue, commitments, money, and judgment belong to the same moral shape.
