About the passage
Psalms 63: Thirst that turns into a feast
Psalm 63 turns a dry landscape into the language of a whole person longing for God. The speaker remembers power and glory seen in the sanctuary, yet the memory does not make absence painless. It sharpens desire. Hunger then becomes the image of abundance as the night watches fill with remembrance, praise, and the confidence of being upheld even while the soul still reaches forward. The closing verses reveal why refuge matters so urgently: enemies seek the same life that has been thirsting, satisfied, and following after God. Their future is set against the king's rejoicing and against mouths devoted to truth. The psalm begins with lips praising in deprivation and ends with lying mouths stopped, making speech itself part of the final contrast.
