About the passage
Psalms 67: A blessing with the nations in view
Psalm 67 asks for mercy, blessing, and the light of God's face, then immediately tells why: so that God's way and saving power may be known among the nations. The community's good is not imagined as a private enclosure. Its blessing is meant to become visible beyond itself. The repeated call for all peoples to praise surrounds the hope of righteous government, shared gladness, and the earth's increase. Harvest therefore does not interrupt the concern for the nations. It belongs inside it. Even the intimate phrase "our own God" does not shrink the horizon, because the final line reaches again to the ends of the earth. From beginning to end, particular relationship and worldwide recognition stand together. The psalm asks for gifts that remain truly good for the community while also pointing beyond the community that receives them.
