About the passage
Psalms 103: The God who remembers dust does not forget mercy
Psalm 103 begins with one person ordering his own soul not to forget and ends with all creation summoned into praise. Between those points, The Book of Psalms gives mercy dimensions too large for accounting and compassion a scale intimate enough to remember dust. Forgiveness is pictured as distance, mercy as height, human life as grass, and divine care as a father’s pity. The chapter never treats frailty as a surprise to the Creator. He knows the frame he made and remembers what it is made of. Yet the same poem that speaks tenderly of dust also speaks of covenant, commandments, righteousness, angels, and a throne over all. Personal gratitude grows outward until it finds its place inside the whole dominion.
