The fourth bowl is poured upon the sun, and heat becomes a furnace. People burn beneath the plague but curse the name that holds its power. No repentance rises from the scorched and stubborn earth. The fifth bowl falls directly on the throne of the beast. The Scorching Sun and the Darkened Kingdom The appointed hour has come upon the earth. True and righteous are the judgments of the Lord. Let every kingdom tremble before his throne. Darkness fills its kingdom while the suffering bite their tongues. Old sores and present anguish draw more blasphemy from the heart. No mountain hides the heart from holy light. The Judge of all the earth remembers every deed. Fire above and darkness below reveal the kingdom’s ruin. Pain cannot produce repentance where rebellion is enthroned. The Scorching Sun and the Darkened Kingdom The appointed hour has come upon the earth. True and righteous are the judgments of the Lord. Let every kingdom tremble before his throne. The Scorching Sun and the Darkened Kingdom

About the passage

Revelation 16: The bowls bring the conflict to its appointed gathering

Seven bowls pour judgment over the beast's worshipers and the world that supports them. The first three bring sores and turn sea, rivers, and springs to blood, while heavenly voices explicitly connect the blood judgment with the blood of saints and prophets. The fourth and fifth bowls bring scorching heat and darkness, yet pain does not produce repentance. The sixth dries the Euphrates and releases deceptive spirits from the dragon, beast, and false prophet to gather rulers for battle at Armageddon. In the middle of that gathering, Christ's warning about watchfulness reaches back to the church messages. The seventh bowl is poured into the air and receives the declaration, "It is done." The Book of Revelation then shows unparalleled earthquake, falling cities, Babylon remembered for judgment, vanished islands and mountains, and crushing hail, while the final human response remains blasphemy rather than repentance.
