[Verse 1]
The Lamb broke open the first four seals:
A white horse rode with a bow.
Red took peace from the earth below;
Black weighed bread in scales of woe.
Pale came Death, and the grave followed after;
Sword, famine, plague crossed land.
Under the altar the martyrs cried,
"How long?" beneath God's hand.
[Refrain]
The seals were opened,
And history shook.
The seals were opened,
As heaven read the book.
Kings hid under mountains,
The mighty lost command:
Who shall be able to stand
Before the wrath of the Lamb?
[Verse 2]
The sixth seal darkened the sun;
The moon became as blood.
Stars fell down, and islands moved,
The sky rolled back above.
Then four winds waited under angels;
A seal marked servants from the tribes.
Judgment paused while mercy numbered
Those preserved beneath the skies.
[Chorus]
A great multitude no man could number,
From every nation, kindred, tongue,
Stood before the throne in white,
Palms in hand and victory sung.
They came through great tribulation;
The Lamb will lead where fountains spring.
God shall wipe away all tears;
Salvation belongs to the King.
[Final Refrain]
The seals were opened,
But mercy still could stand.
