Lyrics · Zechariah
Four Chariots and the Branch
Zechariah 6:1-15
[Procession]
Between two mountains cast like bronze,
Four chariots broke the morning still.
Red, black, white, and dappled horses
Waited for the sovereign will.
[Commission]
North and south received their courses,
Strong teams pressed to walk the earth.
The northern land was made to quiet;
Judgment measured kingdom worth.
[Refrain]
Go through the earth,
Let every restless power be known.
No border hides from heavenly patrol;
No empire moves alone.
[Crown Scene]
From Heldai, Tobijah, and Jedaiah,
Silver and gold were gathered there.
Crowns were shaped and set on Joshua,
High priest beneath the temple air.
[Chorus]
Behold the Branch, who grows from his place,
Building the temple and bearing the grace.
Royal in glory, priestly in peace,
Counsel between them will never cease.
Four chariots travel, the crowns remain,
A sign that the promise will rise again.
[Bridge]
Those far away will come to labor,
Joining the house with willing hand.
The memorial crowns will speak in silence:
God has not forgotten his command.
[Final Chorus]
Behold the Branch, who grows from his place,
Building the temple and bearing the grace.
Not seized by violence, not bought by fame,
The throne and the priesthood agree in his name.
Four chariots travel, the nations obey,
And faithful attention prepares the way.
[Outro]
The horses disappeared beyond the hills;
The crowns stayed in the house.
