Lyrics · Zechariah
Awake, O Sword, against My Shepherd
Zechariah 13:2-9
[Purging Verse]
Names of idols leave the land,
False prophets lose remembered claim.
Unclean spirits find no shelter,
Truth strips costume from the shame.
[Oracle]
A sword awakens in the silence,
Turns toward the shepherd at the center.
The shepherd falls, the sheep are scattered,
Small ones pass beneath the weather.
[Refrain]
Strike the shepherd, scatter the sheep;
The word is sharp, the valley deep.
Yet through the fire a remnant stays,
Refined beneath the searching blaze.
[Chorus]
Awake, O sword, against the shepherd,
Let the hidden counsel stand.
Two parts perish through the breaking,
One is drawn through fire by hand.
Awake, O sword, against the shepherd,
Not the end of covenant claim.
Silver tested, gold made cleaner,
A people learns to call the Name.
[Verse II]
False prophets hide their former garments,
Deny the trade they used to wear.
Wounds upon their hands bear questions,
But no practiced lie can settle there.
[Bridge: Refinery]
Heat does not flatter, flame does not hurry,
Dross rises slowly from the glowing core.
The remnant calls, the LORD gives answer;
Relationship is named once more.
[Final Chorus]
Awake, O sword, against the shepherd,
Let the scattered cross the night.
One third passes through the furnace,
Not abandoned to the light.
Awake, O sword, against the shepherd,
Fire reveals what will remain.
“They are his people,” the heavens witness;
“They call the LORD,” the earth explains.
[Outro]
The flock was scattered;
The remnant learned the Name.
