Lyrics
These words follow the timed lyric file supplied with this recording.
Jesus led them out from Jerusalem as far as Bethany,
The road that once had carried grief now held a final scene.
He lifted up His hands and blessed the ones who gathered near,
No rebuke upon departure, only blessing at the frontier.
While the blessing still continued, He was parted from their sight,
Carried up into heaven beyond the reach of earthly height.
Carried up into heaven,
Hands still lifted as He blessed.
Carried up into heaven,
And the disciples bowed in worship there.
They returned with great rejoicing,
Back to Jerusalem.
There praising God became their song,
And blessing carried on.
They turned again toward the city with a joy the tomb had changed,
The ones who scattered under sorrow now returned with hope arranged.
Continually in the temple, praising God and blessing Him,
Great joy marked their return to where the road had seemed so grim.
They saw Him carried heavenward while blessing marked the end,
Then worshiped and returned with joy to Jerusalem again.
The road points forward,
Jerusalem becomes
The place where they will wait together
For the promise yet to come.
The risen Lord is heavenward,
The witnesses remain,
And great joy fills the city
Where they once had hidden pain.
Carried up into heaven,
Hands still lifted as He blessed.
Carried up into heaven,
And the disciples bowed in worship there.
They returned with great rejoicing,
Praising God from day to day.
The blessing stayed upon them,
And the road still pointed ahead.
