The Book of Micah speaks against corrupt power and empty religion

But it also shows the way back Justice, mercy,

and a humble walk with God

The mountains heard the witness, the hills began to shake. The

Lord came down in judgment for the covenant they break. The

rulers crushed the needy, the prophets sold their peace. The city

sang its offerings while violence filled the streets. But what could

they bring Him? What gift could make them clean? More than

rams or rivers, the Holy One would see. Do justly,

love mercy. Walk humbly with your God.

Not with pride before Him. Not with hands

covered in wrong Let the false scales fall

Let the wounded be restored Do

justly, love mercy And return unto the

Lord She saw Samaria broken She saw Jerusalem weep

The wounded reached the gatehouse The watchman could not sleep False

comfort filled the houses But truth stood in the road The

prophet cried for mourning Where the bitter harvest grows. Yet out

beyond the ruin, past every fallen wall, a shepherd gathers remnants

and mercy starts to call. Do justly, love mercy,

warm humbly with your God. Not with pride,

with pride before.

Let the false scales fall.

Let the wounded be restored.

To justly, to justly. Love mercy and return.

But thou Bethlehem Ephrathah, small among the clans From you shall

come a ruler with ancient days in hand He shall stand

and feed his people in the strength of the Lord And

they shall dwell securely When peace becomes their door The nations

beat their swords down The mountain rises high Every man beneath

this vine With no fear in his eyes Though she has

fallen, she shall rise Though darkness covers stone The Lord will

be her light again And bring His people home Do justly,

love mercy Walk humbly with your God

Let the proud heart tremble Let the

weary heart hold on

Who is a God like unto Him, who pardons and restores?

He treads our sins beneath His feet and keeps His covenant

sure.
