Two malefactors walked with Jesus toward the place called Calvary,

Three crosses rose together where the watching crowd could see.

He was crucified between them; soldiers divided what He wore,

While rulers mocked the saving works they'd heard of long before.

He prayed forgiveness over those who did not know the weight,

As soldiers offered vinegar and mocked Him to His face.

Above Him stood the writing naming Jesus as the King,

A title meant for ridicule that one thief began to see.

Remember me,

When Thy kingdom comes in view.

Remember me,

For this punishment is due.

This Man has done nothing amiss,

Yet hangs beneath the same decree.

One dying thief saw more than mockery:

A King upon a tree.

The first condemned man railed at Him, demanding rescue from the cross,

But the other turned and rebuked him in the face of common loss.

Did he not fear God, when all three suffered under sentence there?

They received the due reward for deeds; this Man had done no wrong.

Then with death already near and no future deed to bring,

The criminal looked toward Jesus and addressed Him as a King.

No future deed to offer,

No years left to amend,

Only fear of God, confession,

Before the breathing end.

One thief saw through the mocking,

Past the title raised in shame,

Then Jesus gave the promise:

Paradise that very day.

Remember me,

When Thy kingdom comes in view.

Remember me,

For this punishment is due.

This Man has done nothing amiss,

Yet death could not erase His reign.

At Calvary a dying thief

Found paradise beside his pain.
