Lyrics

These words follow the timed lyric file supplied with this recording.

Who art thou?

Not the Christ.

Elijah? No.

That prophet? No.

Then what voice stands where the dry wind blows?

A road through the wilderness, a cry where the river bends,

makes straight the way before him, the waiting age now ends.

Water can mark repentance, but water is not the throne, one

stands among the people, unrecognized, unknown.

Behold the Lamb of God, see Him drawing near The sin

of all the world will need its answer here The witness

does not claim the light, He points beyond the flood Behold

the Son of God! Behold the Lamb of God!

The messengers pressed the question, Why baptize if none of these

art thou? John answered, One comes after, whose sandal I cannot

unbind now. Before the witness breathed his thirst, the coming one

had been. The river only cleared the road for Israel to

see him.

Behold the Lamb of God, see him drawing near. The sin

of all the world will need its answer here. The witness

does not claim the light, he points beyond the flood.

Behold the Son of God, behold the Lamb of God.

He saw the heavens answer The spirit like a dove

Descending and remaining Upon the chosen son The

sign was not a rumor The record was not spun The

one on whom the Spirit stayed Would baptize in the Holy

Ghost Behold the Lamb of God No crown upon

His brow Yet heaven gave its witness And John gives witness

now The voice becomes a doorway. The river bears the word.

This is the son of God. The promised lamb has come.

The witness stepped aside. The lamb walked off!
