Camel hair and a leather belt Jordan water, desert heat Locust,

honey, dust and confession Judea gathering at his feet John put

no crown upon his calling Claimed no glory for His name

One is coming stronger than I am I am not worthy

of His sandals Prepare the way Make His path straight Turn

from sin Prepare the way Water on the body Repentance in

the heart But one is coming With the Holy Ghost

Out of Nazareth He came Down into Jordan's flowing

line John baptized Jesus in the water Then the

heavens opened wide Spirit descending like a dove

A voice above the river spoke The beloved Son stood in

the water Heaven's pleasure resting over Him Prepare the way,

the promised one has come Prepare the way, look beyond the

messenger and see the sun.

The Spirit drove him from the river to the wild Forty

days with Satan testing wild beasts moving through the night No

crowd, no Jordan, no voice of John Only wilderness and trial

And when the forty days had passed Angels ministered there

Prepare the way, make his path straight The gospel has begun,

the voice cried out In the wilderness, then yielded to the

sun Prepare the way, the mightier one has come
