Lyrics

Boats crossed toward Capernaum The crowd pursued the

sign Master, when camest thou hither?

He answered past their line Ye seek because the bread was

warm, because your hunger ceased Labor not for

food that dies,

but for the lasting feast Not bread that perishes Not

hunger dressed and fed The Father gives from heaven

The true and living bread

What shall we do for God?

Believe the one He sent Then show a sign like

manna Our fathers ate and went But Moses did

not make it fall Nor could that bread defeat the grave

The Father gives the bread of God That comes to make

the whole world live. The bread of life stood before them.

The hungry still asked where the bread of life came down

from heaven. The thirsty murmured there, who comes to him

will hunger not. Who trusts will never thirst The

fathers will, will lose not one But raise them at the

last Is not this Joseph's son? We know his

mother, know his home How can he say from heaven

the familiar close their hope? No one can come by pride

alone. The Father draws and teaches true.

The one who hears and learns of God will find the

Son in view Not bread that perishes Not hunger

dressed and fed The fathers ate the manna

Yet all of them are dead

King bread was given for the life of all the world

The saying cut through easy faith and sharp dispute

unfurled How can this man give flesh to eat? The

words grew harder still Life joined the flesh and blood He

gave Abiding in His will The Spirit gives the

life The flesh alone is vain The words were spirit,

words were life Yet many would not stay He knew the

unbelieving He knew the traitor's heart No

hidden crowd could hide from Him who came and who would

part From that time many walked no more

Footsteps left the synagogue. The room became the

twelve.

Will ye also go away? No force, no softened claim.

Peter faced the emptying road and answered in their

name Lord, to whom shall we go?

Thou hast the words of life We believe and know the

truth Thou art the Christ,

God's living Son

The bread of life stood before them The hard word

cleared the room Some sought only yesterday's bread Some

stayed because of truth Who comes to him will hunger not

Who trusts receives the life The words no other voice

could give Still held the twelve that night Twelve were chosen,

one heart had turned The bread remained
