Bethsaida at the edge of day.

Friends brought a blind man near.

Jesus took him by the hand

and led him from the town.

No crowd around the moment.

No spectacle to see.

A touch upon his eyes.

Then the question:

Do you see?

Light.

Shapes.

Movement.

"I see men as trees,

walking."

Not dark anymore.

Not clear.

Not finished.

Hands upon his eyes again.

He looked up.

Edges held.

Faces separated from the ground.

Near became near.

Far became far.

Every man stood clearly now.

No blur between the body and the tree.

No guessing what was moving.

Sight had come all the way.

Light.

Faces.

Distance.

No more men like trees walking.

A second touch.

A steady gaze.

The world returned in focus.

Jesus sent him home.

And he walked there seeing.
