They carried the Ark into the house of Dagon.

They set it beside their god.

But the Lord was not defeated.

They brought him through the gates of Ashdod

Like a trophy from the war

Set the ark beside their idol

And sealed the temple door

Gold was high above the silence, stone was lifted on a throne

But the Holy One of Israel stood undefeated and alone

No army moved, no trumpet cried, no hand was raised at all

But heaven watched through midnight and waited for the fall

Dust was burning in the lights

They came to praise their silent master

But terror filled their eyes

Dagon lay before the ark

Face down upon the floor

The god they had to lift by hand

could not stand anymore

They raised him up, they closed the door

Pretended all was well

But stone can never hold its throne

Again the morning opened, again they crossed the stone

But Dagon's head was broken, and his hands were overthrown

The face that could not answer, the hands that could not save

Lay shattered on the threshold, before the ancient name

Who can stand beside him? Who can share his throne?

Stone and gold are silent When the living God is known

Who can rise against Him? Who can claim His crown?

The idols men have lifted Are the first to hit the ground

No sword in the chamber No shout in the night

No fire from heaven, no flash of light

Just the ark still standing, just the false god torn
