Lyrics

These words follow the timed lyric file supplied with this recording.

Jesus walked toward Nain with disciples in a crowd While another

crowd came outward, grief unhidden, grief allowed At the gate a

beer was carried with a widow close behind Her only son

lay silent and no other child remained Much of the city

walked with her, the morning filled the road A mother already

widowed bent beneath another load Then Jesus saw the woman before

anyone could plead

At the gate of name Two processions

met that day One was carrying death outward

One was bringing life that way At the

gate of name Compassion stopped the line

The widow came out weeping But she

would not return the same

He told the grieving mother not to weep as he drew

near Then touched the beer and every bearer stopped in sudden

fear No medicine, no ritual, no bargaining for breath He spoke

to the young man and the word went into death The

body sat upright, The silent mouth began to speak And Jesus

gave him to his mother Strong where grief had made her

weak He gave him to his mother The simplest words remain

The road that carried out her sorrow Carried back her son

again

Fear came upon them all and praise rose through the gate

A great prophet had arisen, God had visited their state The

report went out through Judea and the country all around For

Nain had seen a funeral stopped by one commanding sound

At the gate of Nain Two

processions met that day One was carrying death outward

One was bringing life that way At the

gate of Nain The city's sorrow changed its name

A widow held her son again

And the news outran the train
