From the synagogue into Simon's house,
a fever burned behind the door.
They told Jesus she was lying there,
too weak to rise from where she'd fallen.
He came near.
He took her hand.
He lifted her from the bed.
The fever left
as quickly as His fingers closed,
and strength came back instead.
He came near.
He came near.
Mercy never feared the need.
He came near.
He took her hand.
And what was broken found release.
Then the sun went down on Capernaum
and the whole street seemed to move.
Sick men carried.
Broken bodies.
Tormented hearts came to the door.
Disease by disease,
spirit by spirit,
need after need through the night.
He healed many.
He cast devils out.
Darkness did not get to speak.
Before the city woke,
Jesus left for a solitary place.
Simon and the others found Him:
"Everyone is looking for You."
But the road went farther.
Other towns were waiting.
The message would keep moving on.
Then a leper knelt before Him,
hope and fear within the plea:
He knew Jesus had the power.
The question was willingness.
Jesus reached.
Jesus touched.
The man was clean.
He came near.
To fever, bondage, skin and shame.
He came near.
And compassion moved
before the crowds could speak His name.
The healed man spread the story.
People came from every side.
The lonely places filled with footsteps.
Compassion kept moving.
