Everybody bowed when the proud man came
Gold on his robe and a fire in his name
Every head fell low at the palace gate
But Mordecai stood with a holy weight
He would not bend
He would not break
He would not bow
For a mortal name
No fear in his bones
No shame in his eyes
He bowed to no man
Above the God of Israel
No man
No throne
No crown made of dust
No fear
No sword
Could master his trust
The order went out through the kingâs own gate
Every servant watched, every breath held late
Haman rose high in the sight of men
But one old Jew would not bow to him
They said, âWhy do you stand
When the law says fall?â
He said nothing loud
But his faith said all
In the dust and the sun
Where the proud demand
He stood like a stone
With Godâs name in his hands
Everybody bowed when the proud man came
Gold on his robe and a fire in his name
Every head fell low at the palace gate
But Mordecai stood with a holy weight
He would not bend
He would not break
He would not bow
For a mortal name
No fear in his bones
No shame in his eyes
He bowed to no man
Above the God of Israel
Let the empire rage
Let the wicked rise
Let the whisper turn
Into sharpened lies
There is one true King
Over earth and sky
And the faithful stand
When the fearful hide
No man
No throne
No crown made of dust
No fear
No sword
Could master his trust
He would not bend
He would not break
He would not bow
For a mortal name
No fear in his bones
No shame in his eyes
He bowed to no man
Above the God of Israel
Mordecai bowed not
Esther three and two
He stood at the gate
And his God stood true
