Lyrics · 1 Chronicles
A House Established Forever
1 Chronicles 17:1-27
[Verse 1]
David sits in his house and contrasts cedar walls with the ark's curtains.
That night God's word redirects the prophet.
God recalls dwelling from tent to tent since the exodus.
David is reminded that he was taken from the sheepcote.
[Pre-Chorus]
The crown looked bright, the burden lay beneath,
A throne could shelter life or summon grief.
[Chorus]
A House Established Forever, every crown is weighed,
Thrones are raised and royal vows are made.
A kingdom stands only where the word remains,
For pride can break what wisdom once sustains.
[Verse 2]
A son from David's seed will be raised after him.
That son will build the house of God.
His throne will be established forever.
Covenant mercy will not be removed as it was from Saul.
[Bridge]
Nathan reports every word and vision to David.
David sits before God and asks who he is to receive such honor.
He praises the incomparable God who redeemed Israel as his own people.
David asks that the promised house be established and blessed forever.
[Final Chorus]
A House Established Forever, every crown is weighed,
Thrones are raised and royal vows are made.
A kingdom stands only where the word remains,
For pride can break what wisdom must sustain.
[Outro]
The crown passed on, the record kept the cost.
No throne could hold what disobedience lost.
