The End of All Things Is at Hand
1 Peter · Future Garage
[Verse 1 - clipped march]
Enough of the old night:
the flood of appetite, the loud cup,
the altar built for lawless desire.
Arm the mind with the mind of Christ.
Spend what remains on the will of God.
[Refrain - watch call]
The end of all things is at hand.
Be sober. Watch and pray.
[Verse 2 - pressure rises]
Old companions call the change strange;
their mouths throw ash at your name.
Every voice will answer to the Judge
ready for the living and the dead.
So let love burn longer than offense;
open the door without a grudge.
[Refrain - percussion widens]
The end of all things is at hand.
Be sober. Watch and pray.
[Verse 3 - stewardship litany]
What gift came to your hands?
Pass it on as manifold grace.
If you speak, carry the oracles faithfully.
If you serve, lean on the strength God gives.
Let every task return its glory
through Jesus Christ to God.
[Breakdown - voice and bass]
Do not call the fire strange.
Do not borrow shame from suffering.
Yet never crown the murderer, thief,
evildoer, or meddler with Christ's name.
Let judgment begin where God's house stands.
[Refrain - altered]
The end of all things is at hand.
Rejoice when his glory is revealed.
Commit your soul to the faithful Creator,
keep doing good. Keep doing good.
[Outro - three strikes]
Watch.
Pray.
Do good.
