[Verse 1] In Asa's thirty-sixth year Baasha fortifies Ramah against Judah. The wealth is sent to Ben-hadad of Syria as payment for alliance. Baasha abandons construction at Ramah. Asa uses the materials to build Geba and Mizpah. [Pre-Chorus] The warning stood where no one wished to see, And every hidden root became a tree. The word of the LORD exposed what men concealed, And judgment stood where every heart was revealed. [Verse 2] Hanani declares that Asa acted foolishly and will now have wars. Asa becomes enraged and puts the seer in prison. The king also oppresses some of the people. In his thirty-ninth year Asa develops a severe disease in his feet. [Bridge] Asa dies in the forty-first year of his reign. He is placed in his own prepared sepulchre. The burial bed is filled with spices compounded by apothecaries. A great burning honors Asa, and Jehoshaphat succeeds him. [Final Chorus] Because Thou Hast Relied on Syria, let the warning remain, Hidden sin still flowers into pain.
